Boyden Celebrates Life

grade 2 ependymoma

Name: Greg B.
Type of Cancer: Grade 2 Ependymoma Brain Tumor
Diagnosed: March 2009

My name is Greg. I am 61 years old. In March of 2009, I was diagnosed with a grade 2 ependymoma brain tumor. My surgery was on May 13, 2009 and I had a total resection of the tumor.

I feel very lucky and humble to say that I am back to being as active as I was before surgery. I am a surfer and a cyclist and have been able to return to doing the things I love. As a member of the Brain Tumor Community, I feel a responsibility to help newly diagnosed people that are undergoing the physical and psychological issues that they are confronted with after being diagnosed with this disease. I now know that I had a grade 2 ependymoma, I am having bi-annual MRI scans to make sure there is no regrowth. So far so good!

New Outlook

Since my surgery, every morning I wake up is a GOOD day. Last summer I completed two double century bicycle rides in California. That is 200 miles in one day. It may sound like a crazy and lofty goal to achieve, but for me it was a celebration of life and a testament of how good my surgeons were. I think when we are handed a second chance in life, we tend to grab a hold of it and embrace it with a new found enthusiasm.
